It is fantastic to see such a young star on the racing scene with over a decade of experience. Simona de Silvestro is a young Swiss race car driver currently competing for KV Racing Technology in the IZOD IndyCar Series. For the 2013 season she will race alongside veteran driver Tony Kanaan as a two-car team.

It was her interest in the strategy and techniques of racing along with the mechanics of cars that led to pursuing racing as a full-time career. De Silvestro raced in Europe until 2006 placing top ten in various races including the 2002 Trofeo Industria Parma, Wintercup Lonato, Swiss Championship, and the Bridgestone-Cup Switzerland.

In her first year of racing in the United States, she nabbed two third-place finishes at the U.S. Grand Prix and became the first woman to earn a podium result at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. She also became the second women in the world to win the 2008 Long Beach Grand Prix.

De Silvestro has since continued her racing legacy, so expect big things to come in the next few years! She is definitely a women engineering change.
